What Kansas City homeowners say

Real reviews from real KC-metro jobs

Why Kodiak cedar

Wood fence built for Kansas City weather.

Western Red Cedar

Clear, kiln-dried Western Red Cedar — the wood that actually holds up in Kansas City humidity and freeze-thaw cycles. We do not substitute whitewood.

Steel posts standard

Galvanized 2⅜″ steel posts set 36+ inches deep in 4,000 PSI concrete. Cedar on steel is the build that lasts 20+ years in KC clay.

10-year workmanship

Every wood fence we install in Kansas City is backed by a written 10-year workmanship warranty. Manufacturer warranty on hardware on top.

Repairable forever

Cedar repairs board-by-board. We match boards on installs we did 10 years ago and on fences other contractors built.

Styles

Wood fence styles we install in KC.

6 ft solid privacy (dog-ear)

Tight-board cedar, 3 stringers, dog-ear pickets. The KC backyard default — full screening, classic look.

Board-on-board

Overlapping boards for 100% privacy from both sides. Best look-from-either-side fence we build — and the option HOAs love.

Shadowbox / good-neighbor

Alternating boards for airflow and shared visual appeal. Common in HOA-driven Overland Park, Leawood, and Olathe neighborhoods.

Flat-top with cap & trim

Cleaner modern look. Cap board sheds water off picket tops and adds 3–5 years of life vs raw dog-ear.

Spaced-picket & 4 ft dog-ear

Traditional KC front yards and pet runs — semi-private with airflow. Great for sloped Brookside and Waldo lots.

Split rail (2 or 3 rail)

Cedar or locust split rail with optional welded-wire backer. Perfect for acreage in Stilwell, Spring Hill, and Smithville.

Install spec

Our 6-step cedar install standard.

  1. 1

Call KS/MO 811 and stake the line — we lay out posts off your survey or fence the property line you confirm.

  2. 2

Dig 36″ deep × 10–12″ wide post holes (past the KC frost line). 4 ft hand-dig or skid-steer auger depending on access.

  3. 3

Set galvanized 2⅜″ steel posts in 4,000 PSI concrete, sloped to shed water. Brace plumb and cure 24–48 hours.

  4. 4

Install 3 × 2×4 cedar stringers (top, middle, bottom) on every 6 ft section. Hot-dipped galvanized fasteners only.

  5. 5

Hang #1-grade Western Red Cedar pickets with consistent ⅛″ reveal, scribed to grade on slopes.

  6. 6

Hang cedar gates on 2 commercial hinges minimum (3 for 5 ft+ wide). Drop-rod on doubles. Self-closing on pool gates per KC code.

Neighborhoods

Wood fence work across the KC metro.

Brookside / Waldo (KCMO)

Tight 1920s lots, alley posts, mature trees. We hand-dig where roots demand it and match historic cedar styles.

Overland Park (Leawood-style HOAs)

Board-on-board or shadowbox with stain colors pre-approved by ARC. We submit elevations and stain chips for you.

Olathe & Gardner

Newer subdivisions, flat lots — 6 ft cedar privacy with steel posts is the dominant install. Fast permit turnaround.

Lee's Summit & Blue Springs

Sloped backyards into greenways. We step or rack fences clean — no triangle gaps under pickets.

Liberty / Smithville / Northland

Larger lots, walkout basements. Cedar privacy on the patio side, split rail on the back property line is common.

Leawood & Mission Hills

Premium cedar — pre-stained, cap & trim, hidden fasteners. ARC requires specific stain SKUs; we keep them on file.

Shawnee & Lenexa

Mix of HOA shadowbox and open-yard privacy. Cedar holds up to the wind tunnels off K-7 better than vinyl.

Independence & Raytown (MO)

Older properties, lots of fence replacement work. We tear out the old chain-link or rotted PT and rebuild cedar on steel.
