Barbed Wire Fence Installation

Barbed wire still has a place on cattle pasture and rural perimeters. The difference between a barbed fence that lasts 30 years and one that sags in three is bracing, post spacing, and proper wire tension — none of which can be guessed at.

Who it's for

Built for the way you actually use your property.

Cattle producers, large rural properties, and farms where barbed wire is the appropriate and code-compliant choice.

Why this build

Why our barbed wire fences hold up.

Tensioned with in-line stretchers

We pull every strand to spec rather than relying on hand tension.

Properly braced corners

H-brace and double-H assemblies built to hold tension on long runs.

Honest about when not to use it

We won't sell you barbed wire for horse pasture or near children — we'll recommend a safer alternative.

Built for Kansas City

The Kansas City proof points behind every Kodiak fence.

Every barbed wire fences build we deliver in the Kansas City metro is engineered around the four things that actually break fences here: clay soil that swells and shifts, a frost line that pushes shallow posts, 60–80 mph straight-line spring winds, and 30+ freeze-thaw cycles a year.

36+ in.

Post depth — below KC frost line

Every post hole is dug past the local frost depth and set in concrete sized to the post and fence height — the #1 reason posts lean in season two.

Expansive clay

Soil-rated bracing on every job

Wyandotte, Jackson, and Johnson County soils swell and contract. We over-spec corner and gate post diameter and footing volume so they stay plumb.

60–80 mph

Wind-rated framing & fasteners

Spring straight-line winds tear weak fence apart. Our pickets are hot-dip or stainless fastened, with welded steel gate frames and double H-braces on long runs.

10-yr

Written workmanship warranty

Backed in writing on every install across metro KC. If a post leans, a gate sags, or a panel pops — we come back and fix it.

Building only in metro Kansas City

We don't chase work outside the metro. Our crews know KCMO and KCK code, every Johnson County HOA quirk, and the soil on both sides of the state line.

Install spec sheet

What goes into every barbed wire fences install we do in metro Kansas City.

We publish our spec because most KC fence quotes don't — and "cheaper" almost always means shallower posts, lighter posts, electroplated fasteners, or screwed-together gates. This is the standard you should compare every Kansas City quote against.

Post depth & footings

Holes augered to 36–42 in. — past the KC frost line — and a minimum of 8 in. diameter. Each post is set in fresh 4,000 PSI concrete sized to the post and fence height, never dry-set or pea-gravel backfill.

Framing & connections

Pressure-treated 4x4 or 6x6 wood posts on residential builds, schedule-40 galvanized steel posts on commercial and most ornamental. Rails are double-screwed into routed pockets or bracketed with hot-dip galvanized hardware. Gate frames are 100% welded steel — never screwed-together angle iron.

Fasteners & hardware

Hot-dip galvanized or stainless ring-shank pickets fasteners (we won't ship a job with electroplated screws — they rust through KC humidity in 2–4 years). Commercial adjustable hinges, self-closing hardware on pool gates, and ICC-compliant 54 in. latch height where code requires.

Materials we'll actually quote

Western Red Cedar (premium pickets only — culls rejected at delivery), heavy-wall vinyl with internal aluminum stiffeners on gates and end posts, marine-grade powder-coated aluminum, and schedule-40 chain-link framework. No big-box panels, no contractor-grade vinyl.

Code & permitting

We pull every KCMO, KCK, Overland Park, Olathe, Leawood, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, and surrounding-suburb permit on your behalf. Each build is set back from the property line per the local code book (typically 0–3 ft) and engineered to meet local wind, height, and visibility requirements.

Walk-through & warranty

Before we invoice, we walk every linear foot with you. Gates swing square, posts read plumb on a 4-ft level, and the line is clean. Your 10-year workmanship warranty is then registered in writing and emailed.
